Obituary

ROBERT CLEMENT SITZES, age 89, resident of Charleston died Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the MO Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born October 24, 1920 in Charleston to the late Oda Franklin and Rubye Marie Tharp Sitzes. A graduate of Charleston High School, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1942 where he received his training as a pilot and graduated from cadet school as a Second Lieutenant. He flew in the African Theatre and returned from overseas in 1944. He was then stationed in Memphis, TN as an instructor for Instrument Training for the Ferry Group, achieving the rank of Major before his discharge in 1946. He flew for a total of 41 years in military, commercial and private corporate aviation. In 1983 he retired as the Director of Corporate Aviation from Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, IN. He returned to Charleston in 1991 where he was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Kiwanis Club, and the Charleston Country Club. Bob remained an avid golfer his entire life at both the Harrison Lake Country Club in Columbus, IN and the Charleston Country Club.

On October 16, 1942 in Merced, CA he married Lenora Lee Carver who survives of the home.

Also surviving are two sons and one daughter in law, Clifford Randolph Sitzes of Boca Raton, FL, and Steven Lee and Shelley Sitzes of Marietta, GA; also four grandchildren, Jason Scott Sitzes of Louisville, KY, David Carver Sitzes and John Bennett Sitzes both of Marietta, GA, and Angela Ornelas of Woodbridge, VA.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Oda F. Sitzes Jr. and Silas Sitzes, and one sister, Ann Louise Roach.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the
McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Charleston with Rev. Michael Brewer, Pastor, officiating.

Missouri Military Honor Guard will conduct Military Graveside Rites at the IOOF Cemetery Interment will follow under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jason Scott Sitzes, David Carver Sitzes, John Bennett Sitzes, Jarryd, Smith, Ivan Hess, Lee Hess, and Clint Hess.
