ROY H. SIMPKINS, age 77, a resident of Sikeston formerly of East Prairie, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.
He was born November 1, 1933 in Holcomb, MO, to the late Ben H. "B.H." and Mary Jane Owens Simpkins. He had lived in Mississippi County most of his life and was a member of the MO National Guard for a number of years. He had worked on the river as a boat hand, and had also been employed with Mississippi County Grain Company, and then with Sikeston Concrete Company until his retirement. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Sikeston.
He is survived by two sisters, Berniece Thresher of Barlow, KY and Mattie Prince of Charleston; one half brother, James F. Simpkins of Louisville, KY; two step brothers Donnie Wolford of Sikeston and Wilbur Hale of DeSoto; two step sisters, Arvella Brown of East Prairie and Connie Moore of Festus.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, J.B. Simpkins, Carl Simpkins, Johnny Simpkins; and one step sister, Patsy Grogan.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 15, 2011 at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Rev. Ted Wimberley, pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
