Obituary

Roy Eugene Smith, age 74, died Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at his home in Bertrand.

Born May 11, 1948, at Cairo, IL, to the late William Junior Smith and Margie Louise Magee Smith, he had lived in the Brewer's Lake Community in Mississippi County, MO most of his life. He enlisted in the United States Army at a young age and after his faithful service to his country returned to Mississippi County where he was engaged in farming.  He then went to work as a deckhand becoming a riverboat pilot to whom he was known as "Daddy Roy" with Waterfront Services in Cairo, IL for several years. Following his employment on the river he was employed by Medlin Equipment until his retirement. He was an active member of the Wyatt Baptist Church.  He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family.

On June 30, 1973, he married Barbara Annette Gentry, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are his children, Brandy Adams (Ray) Crisel of Charleston; Casey Bradford of Mazeppa, MN; Roy Eugene (Tracy), Jr. of Wyatt and Allison Annette (Jordan) Hileman of Sikeston; his brother, James (Betty) Smith of Wyatt; his sister, Kathy (Charles) Allred of Sikeston; a number of grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one on the way; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.  Also, a special son in law, Carl (Jessica) Welch of Wyatt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons in law, David Adams and Donnie Bradford; two great grandchildren, Jonathan Welch and Kylie Welch; and his brothers and sisters, Robert Smith, Donald Ray Smith and Becky Hancock.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 07, 2022 at the Wyatt Baptist Church.   Pastor Dean Wallace will officiate.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
