RUSSELL BORDERS

THOMAS RUSSELL BORDERS, age 74, of Charleston, died Sunday, November 18, 2018, at the Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born July 31, 1944, at Charleston, MO, to the late George Dewey Borders and Nancy Oscille Fowler Borders, he grew up in Charleston and was a 1964 graduate of Charleston High School. Following high school, he joined the Army National Guard where he served from 1964 until his retirement in 1987. For over 26 years, he was employed with the Brown Shoe Company until its closing and then became the Animal Control Officer for the City of Charleston. He also worked as a School Crossing Guard for Charleston R-1 Schools and at the V.F.W. Post #4294 in Charleston, where he was a member.

On November 12, 1982, he married Olinda Marie Brown, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are two sons, Russell Borders of Wickliffe, KY and Mike (Tina) Borders of Charleston; one daughter, Melissa (Tony) Hall of Wickliffe, KY; one stepson, Larry (Lana) Jones of Charleston; one stepdaughter, Misty (Travis McLean) Jones of Charleston; three brothers, Billy Borders of Charleston; James Borders of Paducah, KY and Larry Borders of East Prairie; two sisters, Frances Fox and Shirley Rice both of Wichita Fall, TX; 4 grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Marshall Dewey Borders and three sisters, Eunice Hudson, Louise Miller and Rosemary Pirtle.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2018. Ron Aldridge, pastor of the New Beginnings Fellowship of Charleston, will officiate.

Interment will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield with full military honors.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Borders, Justin Borders, Dylon Hall, Douglas Reynolds, Scott Reynolds and Donald Baker.
