RUTH MATTHEWS O'DELL

Virginia Ruth Matthews O'Dell, age 77, of East Prairie, died Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born June 27, 1945, in Mississippi County, Mo., to the late Kilmer John Matthews and Agnes Cooper Matthews, she had lived in East Prairie most of her life.  For many years, she lived in Illinois and was employed at the Marshall Browning Hospital.

On September 5, 2007, she married Charles William O'Dell, who preceded her in death on July 8, 2010.

Surviving are her children, Sandra (Paul) Jamerson and Maria (Joseph) Brown of East Prairie, and Charles Wayne O'Dell of DuQuoin, IL; 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson; also, several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Carla Jean Ditto, her son, Harold Eugene Myers; as well as sisters and brothers, Laverne Brown, Julian "J.E" Matthews, Leroy Matthews, Maxine George, and Magdalene Manning.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at noon, Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.  Her son, Charles Wayne O'Dell, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
