Obituary

Ruthe Rebecca Hahn Blackwell, age 95, a resident of Paris, MO and formerly of Charleston, MO, died Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the Monroe Manor in Paris, MO.

She was born October 5, 1914 in Anniston, daughter of the late Rufus and Ida McClain Hahn. She had lived in Mississippi County most of her life where she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Charleston. She received her teaching degree from Cape Teachers College (Southeast Missouri State University) and had also studied at the University of Missouri –Columbia. She taught elementary school music for 37 years and had been an active member in the MO State Teachers Association, MO Music Educators Association, the National Music Educators Association, and the Retired Teachers of Mississippi County. In addition to her professional involvements, she was a member of the United Methodist Women, the former Katherine Boone Music Club and Athena Club in Charleston.

On May 4, 1935 she married Alfred (John) Blackwell who preceded her in death on June 17, 2002.

Surviving are one son and daughter in law, Judge Carroll M. and Sally Blackwell of Paris; one sister, Margaret Spore of Evansville, IN; two granddaughters, Elizabeth (Betsy) Hoffman of Columbia and Amanda Carroll Blackwell of Houston, TX; and three great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010, at the United Methodist Church in Charleston until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Dan Faust, Pastor of the United Methodist Church, will officiate.
