Obituary

Ruthie May Davis-Craig

September 13, 1946 – December 11, 2024

Ruthie May Davis-Craig was born on September 13, 1946, in Osceola, Arkansas, to Sam Adams and Jesse Mary Lee (Johnson). She is preceded in death by her father, Sam Adams, mother, Jesse Mary Johnson, daughter, Henrietta Roberson, and granddaughter Zameka Jennings.

Ruthie attended Concord Primary School and Lincoln High School in Charleston, Missouri. She left Charleston and sought new opportunities in the North, settling in Chicago, Illinois.

She worked in several professions, including the service industry, a cleaning business, and home health care from which she retired.

As she was making her way back home, she lived in Mounds, Illinois for a few years. But she finally settled back in Charleston where she lived until she parted this life on December 11, 2024, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

She was very fond of getting together with friends and family to listen to the oldies, including songs by artists such as Johnnie Taylor and B.B. King, and to remember the good old days. She loved fishing and would take every opportunity to go hoping to catch "a mess of brims or catfish". But most of all she loved to cook, especially on Sundays and during the holidays.

Ruthie leaves to mourn a son, Saint Anthony Clemmons of Honolulu, Hawaii, and a daughter, Chavel (Wendell) Adams of Chicago, Illinois, two brothers, Reo Johnson and Tommie Johnson, Jr. of Charleston, five sisters, Doris Wheeler, Lynda Warford, and Sarah (Rick) Kent of Charleston, and Alice Jenkins and Vereline Johnson of Cape Girardeau, MO, grandchildren, Charles Ray Jennings, Jr., Avery (Valencia) Adams, Berenda (DeShawn) Allaway, Triston, Precise and Emma Banks, Tiare, Tanisha, and Kaeo Clements, Sausha (Mohammed) Sturgeon, Anthony Colerio, and Alijah Lash, goddaughter Brittany Halland, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including a very special friend, Tommy Owens.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
