Leonard Kent “Sandy” St. John, 73, of Charleston, passed away on February 7, 2026.
Born on October 10, 1952, in Weymouth, Mass., Sandy was the son of the late Floyd and Mary St. John. He was a graduate of Malden High School. His early years were shaped by a deep connection to horses fostered by his father, spending time training them across Florida, Texas, and Kansas.
Sandy eventually settled in Sikeston, where he met his wife of 38 years, Dr. Elizabeth (Freebairn) St. John. He worked at Don King Salvage and later as an agricultural tire representative with Raben Tire, where he dedicated 34 years of service before retiring in 2019. He was well-known and highly respected within the agricultural community throughout Southeast Missouri and beyond.
To his family and friends, Sandy was a constant source of joy and humor. He never met a stranger and had a natural ability to make others feel welcome, often leaving them smiling or laughing. His warmth, quick wit, and generous spirit were at the center of gatherings and everyday moments alike.
In retirement, Sandy continued to live life fully. His passion for fast cars, great horses, and adventure kept him busy, and he passed away after an active day spent with his companion.
He is survived by his daughter, Bel St. John Day (Steven) of Alexandria, Va., and his cherished granddaughter, Emmaline Grace Day, also of Alexandria.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother.
The family invites all who knew Sandy to a celebration of his life, Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Charleston Country Club, 201 North Country Club Lane, Charleston, Missouri, 63834.
