Obituary

SARA MARGARET SUTHERLAND STORY, age 63, a lifelong resident of Charleston, died Friday, February 21, 2020, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.


Sara was born August 24, 1956 in Cairo, IL to Frank Russell and Daisy M. Barfield Sutherland. A 1974 graduate of Charleston High School she participated in many extra-curricular activities and was voted "Most Friendly" in her Senior Class Who's Who; involved in the Girl Scout program beginning as a Brownie Scout, she was the recipient of "First Class" recognition as a Senior Scout. Following graduation, she attended University of Missouri-Columbia and later completed her education with a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion from Southeast Missouri State University in 1996. She contracted with the MO University Extension for Health Promotion through Southeast Missouri area health departments and was currently employed with the Restart Therapy program in Charleston as Health Promotion Specialist. She received her certification as a Personal Trainer from Pepperdine University and assisted many through exercise classes and personal instruction.


Sara was a member of the Charleston United Methodist Church, was current President of Chapter CV P.E.O.; member of the Molly French Garden Club, and former member of the Junior Study Club.


On February 14, 1976 she married Ernest E "Pete" Story who survives of the home.


Also surviving are one son, George Russell "Buck" Story of Charleston; one brother and sister in law, Frank Russell "Buz" and Tammy Sutherland of Sikeston; two grandchildren, George Marshall Story and Cary-McClure Story of Charleston; one brother in law, Tom Story of Sikeston; and also Sam Story of Charleston, and Rebel and Mark Dugan of Charleston.


She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Margaret Story Yarbrough, and her parents.


Visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church in Charleston on Sunday, February 23, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2020. Rev. J. Robert Webster, pastor of the United Methodist Church, will officiate and Eulogy will be offered by Rebel Dugan.


Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.


Pallbearers will be John Story, Court Story, Mark Dugan, Boothe Dugan, Shelby Story, and Heatherington Story.
