Sharlotte Jolene Tidwell, 84, died at her residence in Matthews Saturday, April 12, 2014. She was born April 12, 1930 in Double Springs, Alabama to the late Arthur E. and Evis Savannah (Horton) Ergle. A resident of the Matthews community most of her life, she had attended the Baptist church and worked as a cook at various restaurants and Head Start. On April 19, 1949 she was married to Virgil L. Tidwell at Paragould, Ark. and he preceded her in death in Sept, 1988. She is survived by 2 sons and 1 daugher-in-law, Robert & Ann Tidwell of Canalou and Larry Tidwell of Cooter; 3 daughters and 1 son-in-law, Nida Brand of Jasper, Alabama and Sandra Decker also of Jasper and Patricia & Timmy Angel of Oran; 4 sisters, Gertrude McCoy of Matthews, Edith Grainger of Sikeston, Ruby Lucero of Ottawa, Kansas and Juanita Ergle of Kewanee. Also surviving are 50 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 3 great-greatgrandchildren. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by 6 sons, 1 granddaughter, 7 brothers and 4 sisters. Friends may call at Blanchard Funeral Chapel from 12 noon until time for services at 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 15. Rev. Richard Smith of Matthews will officiate and burial will follow at the Matthews Cemetery.
