Obituary

SHARRON V. FRIEND BLACK, Age 75, a resident of Charleston, died Saturday, August 22, 2015, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born December 15, 1939, at St. Louis, MO, to the late Sherman W. and Evelyn Nielsen Black, she had lived in Charleston since 1969 and had served on the board of the Charleston Nutrition Center.

Everyone knew her as sweet, kind "Miss Sharron", and she lived in Charleston most of her life. She loved her town and the people here.

Widowed with two young children at an early age, Sharron still managed to raise her boys and put them through college. Whatever tragedies came her way, she relied on her faith, hard work and friends to make it though.

She was a member of First Assembly of God of Charleston, and truly loved her church family. And from their childhood, she raised her boys to know and love Jesus.

As a private duty in-home nurse, she touched many lives as she helped people in the final stage of their life. Although difficult to always have to say goodbye to the people she took care of, she felt that was her calling during that part of her life – to share her love and kindness with them.

Sharron was a wonderful grandmother, and doted on her beloved granddaughters. You could see it in her eyes whenever they entered the room. Nothing made her happier than time she spent with them and watching them grow.

On January 21, 1960, at Dawson, MO, she married Lowell Gene Friend, who preceded her in death May 1, 1967. She then married Wayne Stark Black on October 7, 1989, and he preceded her in death on November 11, 2003.

Surviving are two sons and one daughter in law, Lowell and Robin Newcomb Friend of Covington, TN and Oral Friend of Cape Girardeau; one brother, Larry Black of Barnhart, MO; four grandchildren, Georgia Nielsen Friend of Covington, TN; Madison Taylor Friend of Cape Girardeau and Stephen Calmore "Cal" Miller and Henry Terrell Miller both of Covington, TN. Also, a number of nieces and nephews survive.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 27, 2015. Rev. Gerald Penn, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church of Charleston, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Nathan Black, Terry Friend, Webb Friend, Shane Grissom, Hank Miller and Jerry Whittington.

Honorary pallbearer will be Johnny Chronister.
