Obituary

SHIRLEY ANN DeWITT, age 82, passed away, Saturday, July 5, 2025, at her home in Sikeston, MO, surrounded by her loving family.

Born August 16, 1942, at Portageville, MO, to the late John Edward Long and Ethel Angeline Beaird Long, she had lived in Sikeston most of her life and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chaffee, MO.

On March 12, 1960, she married her husband Lonnie DeWitt, who survives of the home. They built a life together for 65 years, a testament of enduring love and loyalty.

Shirley will be remembered for her deep love and devotion to her husband, siblings, children, and grandchildren, a love that was instilled in her by her parents. She was fiercely protective and endlessly selfless. A woman of style and grace, she found joy in shopping and had a special eye for fashion. Beyond her beauty and heart of gold were her quick wit and sass. In her last years, God blessed her with special moments and memories shared with the lights of her life, her granddaughter Hayley and great-grandaughter Sadie, who she had an inseparable bond with. Serving as the backbone of her family, Shirley's strength and boldness will be remembered and cherished by all who loved her.

In addition to her husband, surviving are her daughter, Missy (Monty) Montgomery; her very special granddaughter and great-granddaughter, Hayley (Jayme) Milam and Sadie Grace Milam, her son-in-law, Jimmy Parker; brother, Richard Long; sisters, Diane Ledbetter and Sherry June Howell; her grandchildren, Chase (Hazel) DeWitt, Aaron (Felicia) DeWitt, Nick (Brittany) DeWitt, Charlie Montgomery, Peyton Montgomery, and Jamie (Dawna) Parker; nine additional great-grandchildren, a special brother-in-law, Steve (Laurie) DeWitt, a very dear nephew, Mike Williams, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Angeline Parker; her son, James Lonnie "Jim" DeWitt, Jr.; two great-granddaughters, and her brothers and sisters, Charles Long, Frankie Long, Bob Long, John Long, Ron Long, Freda Williams, Doris Riley, and Brenda Manker.

Private graveside services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston, MO.  Pastor Joe McCullough will officiate.

Interment will follow under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Montgomery, Peyton Montgomery, Chase DeWitt, Jayme Milam, Mike Williams, and Monty Montgomery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Parker and Steve DeWitt.
