Jacob Everett "Sonny" Estes, age 84, of Millington, TN. passed away on Monday October 21, 2024, at Baptist East Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN.
He was born on August 8, 1940, in Charleston, MO. to the late Asa Jacob Estes and the late Jewell Rogers Estes and graduated from Charleston (MO) High School in 1958. He married his high school sweetheart Barbara Sue Scheffer, June 28, 1959, in Charleston, MO. They celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage, and had two children, Debborah R. Lanier and Tabrina L. Estes.
He received his bachelor's degree from Memphis State University in Memphis, TN. He joined the U.S. Navy in August 1958 and retired from the U.S. Navy as a Master Chief in February 1980. He also retired from Aviation Mechanics at FedEx in 2005.
He was a very giving and caring man who loved everyone and never met stranger. Every chance he could, he would go fishing with his buddies/family and hunting with his beloved beagles. His favorite place to be was his cabin on the Tennessee River and at any Memphis Tigers sporting event.
He is survived by his two children, Debborah Lanier and Tabrina (Nikki) Estes of Millington, TN. He's further survived by one sister, Odetta Holland of Advance, MO., his grandson Shawn Lanier and two great-grandchildren, Tristyn Lanier and Harlyn Lanier, both of Millington, TN.
He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara S. Estes, his parents Asa Jacob Estes and Jewell Celeste Rogers Estes, and four sisters Viola LePage, Helen Bingham, Dorothy Sells and Shirley James.
Serving as Pallbearers are Jimmy Nunn, Shawn Lanier, Jonathan Estes, Justin Estes, Cully Donladson and Jimmy Chandler.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 5:00pm- 7:00pm at Munford Funeral Home- Millington Chapel, located at 7450 Raleigh Millington Road, Millington, TN. 38053.
An additional visitation will be held Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9:30am – 11am at Mc Mikle Funeral Home at 201 south Center Street, Charleston, MO. 63834. Following will be a full military honor graveside service at I.O.O.F Cemetery, in Charleston, MO.
