IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sue Struwe
Showmaker
February 26, 1949 – May 8, 2024
Diana Sue Struwe Baughman Showmaker, 75, of Charleston, MO, died peacefully on Wednesday,
May 8, 2024, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in Sikeston, MO, to Marcellus Henry "Tut" Struwe and Geraldine Virginia Bonita "Jerry" Doom,
she graduated from Charleston High School before attending Methodist Hospital School of Nursing
in Memphis, TN.
After returning home, she met her first husband, Michael Maurice Baughman of Lilbourn, MO, and
the two were wed in Sikeston in 1970. Their jobs carried her back to the Memphis area in 1975,
settling in Marion, AR, for thirty years, where she had a long and distinguished career as a registered
nurse, touching countless lives at such renowned institutions as Baptist Memorial Hospital, West
Cancer Clinic, Fresenius Medical Care, and finally St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
A breast cancer survivor, she battled numerous health problems through the years with courage,
resilience, and grace, only stepping back from her calling when she was physically unable to
continue.
She endured the loss of not only her parents but her second child, Jennifer Michelle
Baughman, as well as her first husband before finding a renewed lease on happiness with her
marriage to her second husband, Edward Joseph Showmaker of Charleston, MO, in 2017.
Survived by her son, Paul Baughman, and her sisters, Sandi (David) Gillum and Sara (Karen
Holloman) Struwe as well as nephews John Gillum, Chris Gillum, and Alan Holloman, her marriage
to Eddie made her a mother to Tim Showmaker, Matt (Tammie) Showmaker, Danny Showmaker, and
Jeanna Muskopf; grandmother to Taylor Showmaker, Brittany Showmaker, Theodore Muskopf, Daisy
Muskopf, Amber Showmaker, and Jacob Showmaker; and finally, a great-grandmother to Beckett,
the most recent addition to the ever-growing family that she cherished as her own.
She was loved by all who knew her, made better by her presence in their lives, and she will be
missed by each and every one.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 13, 2024, at the
United Methodist Church, 1700 East Marshall Street, Charleston, MO. Rev. Scott Moon, pastor, will
officiate.
Her final resting place of interment will be Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, AR.
