TED CHARLES MEDLOCK, 79 of Charleston, died Sunday, February 23, 2020, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born August 4, 1940, at Dexter, MO, to the late Virgil Utah (Bill) and Goldie Killian Medlock, Ted was a 1958 graduate of Dexter High School where he played lots of sports, including the football team, the basketball team that went to state many times, and played baseball in a private league after high school. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. After graduation, he worked at Fralick Heating and Plumbing in Dexter. In 1967, he and his family moved to Charleston where he went to work with his Backhoe, working for a number of farmers in the area. He also worked for Moreton Farms for over 20 years and then for H.V. Morrow Trucking and later Small Bootheel Propane in Sikeston.
Ted was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Dexter where he was baptized at an early age. He was a member of the Dexter Jaycees and when he moved to Charleston, he joined the Charleston Jaycees where his love for racing came in to play. To stay active in the community, he became a member of the Charleston Lions club, where he is still a member today. He was also a member of Brewers Lake Clubhouse. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
On January 20, 1961, he married Glenda Horton of Dexter, and she survives of the home.
Also surviving are his daughter, Tracey (Michael) Vinson of Charleston; granddaughter, Amanda (Stacey) Cain of Charleston; grandson, Trent Warren of Charleston; great grandchildren, Poppy Cain and Clark Cain of Charleston; one sister, Glenna Medlock (Phil) Tatum of Farmington; one brother in law, Tom (Pam) Horton of Frisco, TX; four nieces, Laura Horton (Travis) Miller of Dexter, MO; Rachel Horton (Jeff) Fish of Frisco,TX; Robin Horton (Rocky) Moore of Dexter and Kelly Tatum (Patrick) Murphy of Farmington; also, many cousins and friends surviving.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday. Rev. J. Robert Webster, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Charleston, will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Dexter City Cemetery at Dexter, MO under the direction the McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be: John Moreton, Buddy Reeves, Glenn Fennell, Gary Sager, Stacey Cain and Michael Vinson.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Jim Moreton, Jim Presson, Ernie Tate and Amp Sager.
