THELMA M. PETERS, age 99, died Monday, March 19, 2018 at her residence in Bertrand.

She was born March 13, 1919 in the Henson Community of Mississippi County to Ewing G. and Bertha Elder Showmaker. A lifelong resident of Mississippi County, she lived in the Bertand area most of her life. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bertrand where she had served in various capacities and on several boards. A graduate of Diehlstadt High School, she was a member of the high school girls basketball team, and was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan.

On September 23, 1939 she married Lester Louis Peters who preceded her in death on May 8, 1984.

Surviving are two children, Louis Gene Peters of Cape Girardeau and Kay Scherer of Bertrand; seven grandchildren, Gina Graham, Chris Peters, Carlton Cooper, Scott Peters, Carey Peters, Heather Vaughan, and Jennifer Hein; also 12 great grandchildren and 5 great -great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Doris Foster; one brother, Ray Showmaker; and two sisters, Mildred Wilson and Mae R. Levill.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 at the McMikle Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m. Lois McRill, pastor of Bertrand United Methodist Church, will officiate.


Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Chris Peters, Scott Peters, Clayton Vaughan, Brandon Burrow, Tony Burrow, Carlton Cooper, and Phillip Dunn.
