Obituary

Thelma Louise Summers, age 86, of East Prairie, MO, went to her eternal reward, Monday, May 12, 2025, at the Aspire Senior Living Center.

Born August 28, 1938, at Dorena, MO, to the late Matthew Washington Cummins and Amanda Evelyn Cave Cummins, she had lived in East Prairie her entire life.  In her younger years, Thelma was employed with the I.G.A Grocery and with Miss Beauton Long at Beauton's Drug Store.  After taking time from work to raise her family, Thelma went to work with the East Prairie School District in 1991 as a teacher's aide and remained there until her retirement in 2015.   Thelma was a loving person and a faithful Christian.  For over 53 years she was a member of the First General Baptist Church in East Prairie having served as president of the Ladies Aide Society. She faithfully attended most every service.


On February 8, 1969, she married Clyde Milton Summers, who preceded her in death on December 26, 2015.

Surviving are her daughters and sons in law, Felecia and Terry Sanders and Julie and Keith McKinney, all of East Prairie; her grandchildren, Presley (Matt) Derrington, Cotton Day and Emory McKinney; her great grandson, Weston McKinney; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Warren Edward Cummins, Finley George Cummins, Charles Edward Cummins and Frankie Joe Cummins; her sisters, Helen Marie Ditto and Peggy Sue Owens and one infant sister, Mary Jane Cummins.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the First General Baptist Church, 302 West Pine Street, East Prairie.


Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the church, with Martin Lucas and Coy Dowdy officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.

Pallbearers will be Cotton Day, Tyler Branam, Reed Emerson, James Lee Stinnet, Calvin Wilmurth, Dwight White and Michael Tanksley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Youngblood, Marty Brown, Jimbo Taylor, Frank Farquhar and Daniel Uthoff.
