Ted Long

Theodore "Ted" Deveron Long, 69, of Charleston, Missouri, died on December 15, 2018, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
He was born July 16, 1949, at St. Mary's Infirmary in Cairo, Illinois, and showed musical talent at an early age. By 8 years old, he played multiple musical instruments, and by age 11, he started playing bass with The Goldtones.

Throughout his musical career, he played drums, acoustic and electric guitar, bass, and banjo as well as sang. As part of the Lou Hobbs Show, he traveled to 30 states and performed at military bases, armories, Fourth of July celebrations and nightclubs. He appeared on television and produced records and tapes with the group, too.

He also was a professional butcher. Mr. Long learned meat cutting at Lonnie Stader's Market in Charleston, Missouri, and later worked as the meat manager at Wade's Market and Bloemer's Market in Sikeston, Missouri.
While living in Georgia, he was the meat and produce manager for three Winn-Dixie grocery stores, and the store manager for one Winn-Dixie.

Ted is survived by sisters Cyndi Long Mugridge, Debbie Long Alvarez and Paula Long, all of Charleston, Missouri; aunts Carol McCullough of Queen City, Texas, and Linda Mungle of Benton, Missouri; nieces Kelly Cogdill Ettenborough of Phoenix, Arizona, and Christian Deveron Long of Gilbert, Arizona; and cousin Matt Mungle of Norman, Oklahoma.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Paul Garrett Long and Virginia Louise Reynolds, maternal grandparents Edward and Elizabeth Mungle of Charleston, Missouri, and paternal grandparents, Thomas and Laura Long of Oceola, Arkansas.

Visitation with the family will be 6 p.m. until time for the memorial service at 7 p.m. on January 25, 2019, at McMikle Funeral Home, 201 S. Center St., Charleston, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, Ted requested donations be made in his memory to The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, 4215 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, MO, 63108.
