Tinker Atkins

Wylmoth Ruth “Tinker” Atkins, age 79, of Charleston, died Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Annie’s Garden Skilled Nursing Center in Sikeston, MO.

Born March 20, 1947, at Cairo, IL, to the late Dorothy Sisk, she was lovingly given to the late Herb and Rita Chronister, who truly loved and raised her as their own.

Tinker had lived most of her life in Charleston and was employed at the Charleston Housing Authority office for a number of years until her retirement. For many years she was a member of the Charleston Church of the Nazarene and later the Southside Baptist Church in Charleston. Tinker was a talented seamstress, cake decorator and artist.

In 1989, she married the love of her life, David Atkins, who survives of the home.

Also surviving is her daughter and son in law, Terry and Mitch Baker; her son, William Johnny “Bill” Beyerbach; her grandchildren, Kellan (Chelsea) True, Kara (Clayton) Schlitt, Madelyn Baker and Isaac (Angel) Baker and Ashley and Harley; her great grandchildren, Ava, Fletcher and Scarlett Schlitt and Kennedy, Asher and Cora True; also, her sister, Virginia, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Howard, Johnny, Mildred, Glenda B., Chester, Glenda T. and Joan and the father of her children, Johnny Wayne Beyerbach.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Rev. Gerald Collier will officiate.

Interment will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
