Obituary

G.A. "TONY" OHMES, age 64, a resident of Charleston, died Sunday, August 21, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born August 23, 1946 in Cairo, IL to the late Andrew G. and Ruth Evelyn Wyatt Ohmes, he was a lifelong resident of Charleston, member of St. Henry Catholic Church where he served on the parish council, and member of the Knights of Columbus. A 1964 graduate of Charleston High School, he served with the MO National Guard from 1963 – 1968. Following his graduation from SEMO State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agri-business he began farming and re-established the Ohmes family orchard growing peaches and watermelons until his retirement in 2009.

On November 25, 1967 he married Joyce O'Rourke who survives of the home.

Also surviving are two sons and one daughter in law, Anthony and Rebecca Ohmes, and Rourke Ohmes all of Charleston; one daughter and son in law, Ashleigh and Dave Boyd of Columbia; six grandchildren, Clayton Ohmes, Madelynne Kate Ohmes and Sophia Ohmes all of Charleston, Mary Rourke Boyd, Grace E. Boyd and Anne Wyatt Boyd all of Columbia; and one brother Marvin Ohmes of Wappapello.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Beth Ohmes, and one special aunt, June Beal.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston after 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where prayers will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston with Father Glenn Eftink, pastor, serving as celebrant.

Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Clayton Ohmes, Randy Thompson, Charles Moxley, Scott Vowels, Kevin Renaud, Gary Hess, and Andy Bryant.
