IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Verlander
Murphy
December 3, 1959 – September 2, 2023
Celebrating the Life
Of
Verlander Murphy Sr.
On Saturday September 2, 2023, Gods Angels called our loved one home, Verlander Murphy Sr.
His soul winged its flight from this world to a place of No pain, No Tears, Only Gods Eternal Rest.
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son; that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish; but have everlasting Life." (John 3:16)
Verlander Murphy Sr. was born December 6, 1959, at Winona, MS to the union of Mable Smith and Clarence Hughes. After graduating from Vaiden High School, Verlander would then join his mother in Chicago, Illinois where he assisted in managing the family business. He would later go on to pursue a degree in business management at Dawson Technical Institute.
Verlander always had an unconditional Love and appreciation for God's artistry of nature. Because of this Love he partnered with his late brother, Marvin Smith, and created a successful family lawn care service. At any given time, you could find Verlander helping a neighbor in their garden or simply enjoying his favorite hobby of fishing.
Verlander was a guy who never met a stranger. To his friends he was affectionately known as "Hambone". He always had a way of keeping a smile on your face and was usually the loudest in the room with a story to tell, especially on our Family Vacations.
Verlander had a true desire to draw closer to God and at the age of thirteen he joined Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Vaiden, MS. Verlander was our Big Brother, Son, and Father. We will Forever Miss You. Continue to Rest Well in God's Loving Arms until We Meet Again. Love You Always.
"For I am now ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand; I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course, I have kept the Faith". (2 Timothy 4:6-7)
Verlander Murphy Sr. is survived by his mother Mable Smith,
Son: Verlander Boyou Murphy Jr., Grandson: Terrion Banks; Sisters: Shelia Smith-Westbrook, Berlinda Smith; Brothers: Alvin Smith, Kevin Smith; and was preceded in death by his brother Marvin Smith; Verlander has So Many Beloved Nieces and Nephews; and a Host of Beautiful Family and Friends.
Services will be held at the New Birth Church of God in Christ, 1500 West 69 Street, Chicago, Illinois, 60636, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2023.
