Vicki Petersen Backlund, 64, passed away on August 24th, 2022 at home with loved ones by her side.

She was born on November 1, 1957 to Larry and Helen (VanAbbema) Petersen in Brookings, South Dakota; she had three brothers.

Vicki grew up in a little town called George in Iowa. She attended the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Burgos in Spain. In 1980 she came to Walla Walla for a change. She worked at several different places throughout her career including the Walla Walla Country Club and Pizza Hut before retiring from Dunham Cellars where she was the tasting room manager.

On August 14, 1982 Vicki married Richard Backlund in Walla Walla, WA.

She was an avid golfer and gardener, and was even a certified master gardener by WSU. Gardening was her passion. She had a Wednesday afternoon golf club that she truly enjoyed. Vicky had a very large family with over 50 first cousins, and she was always in contact with each of them. She was a 4H Advisor for 20 years in the Poultry Barn. At home she kept chickens, ducks, geese, peacocks, guinea hens and turkeys. Vicki and Richard also had a dog named Pete, who was her constant companion.

Vicki is survived by her loving husband, Richard Backlund; her parents, Larry and Helen Petersen; her brothers, Ron (Diane) Peterson of Charleston, Missouri and Ken (Alessandra) Peterson of Council Bluffs,Iowa; many nieces and nephews; as well as her beloved companion, Pete.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Alan.

There will be a Memorial Service at the Walla Walla Presbyterian Church on September 14, 2022 at 11:00 am with Pastor Albert Gillan officiating.

There will be a private inurnment.

In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial contributions made to the Humane Society, the Audubon Society, or the Walla Walla County 4H Endowment Fund.
