Virgie Nell Nelson, 85, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2018 at Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston.  She was born Aug. 5, 1933 at Atkins, Arkansas to the late George Washington and Gertie (Lemons) Bratton.  On Dec. 24, 1952 she married R. V. Nelson at Atkins and he preceded her in death April 24, 1972.  Soon after her husband's death she moved to Sikeston from Waynesville and then worked as a nurse's aide for over 20 years at Sikeston Convalescent Center.  She is survived by 2 sons:  Mike &  Debbie Nelson of Blodgett and Rick Nelson of Sikeston; 2 daughters:  Susan & Ronnie Hampton of Sikeston and Sherry Emmert of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 1 son-in-law, Jeff Emmert, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.  No services will be held at this time but the family will plan a private celebration of her life at a later date.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at blanchardfuneral.com.
