Virginia L. Cox Wimberley

August 18, 1935 — March 24, 2026

Milan, Tennessee

Virginia Wimberley, 90 of Milan, TN, went to be with her Lord, Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

Born Willie Virginia Lee Cox on August 18, 1935, to Clinen Cox and Zella Mae Davis Cox in Clay County, Arkansas, Virginia was one of six girls and a son born to Clinen and Zella. Her parents and four of her sisters, Jan Wilson, Geri Dean, Lola Doty and Barbara Duty, all preceded her in death.

On July 3, 1953, she married Ted Duyane Wimberley in Rector, Arkansas, and he survives. They completed their family with three daughters, all surviving Rita Abernathy, Sharon (Terry) Dick, and Lesa (Richard) Bray.

Virginia was a perfect helpmate for Ted as they pastored in Southern Baptist ministry fields in Tennessee, Missouri, and Texas. After being a dedicated stay at home mother for years, she lovingly cared for her communities by serving as a doctor assistant and funeral home assistant.

Virginia grew up in farm country in Arkansas tending animals and helping her siblings and parents in the fields. Her talents were many. In high school she was on the basketball team and later played in adult challenges, scoring 20 points. She was a meticulous seamstress and made intricate wedding dresses for her girls. Virginia also loved refinishing furniture, writing poetry, and collecting different sets of dishes. Virginia is perhaps best known for her spirited conversation and mannerisms. Her zest for life was portrayed in her fervency to pursue and finish tasks. She was a picture of elegance and beauty. Virginia loved her husband and her family, but loved her Lord the most. She faithfully served Him until the end.

In addition to her husband and daughters, Virginia is survived by her sister Carolyn Shaw of Georgia, brother Garry (Susan) Cox of Charleston, MO, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Her great granddaughter Gillian Lynette Love preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Sikeston, MO.
