VIVIAN SKELTON HOOPER, age 85, a resident of Bertrand, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born May 23, 1924, in Bertrand to the late Robert Lossen and Lula Mae Taber Skelton, she had lived in Bertrand most of her life where she attended the Church of God of Prophecy. She worked at Brown Shoe Company in Charleston until her retirement in 1986. Following retirement, she joined her husband in attending antique auctions and operating his antique business. They enjoyed spending winter months in Okeechobee, FL.
On June 1, 1946, she married Jess Lee Hooper, who preceded her in death on April 10, 2002.
Surviving are: one son and daughter in law, Robert and Bobbye Hooper of Sikeston; one daughter, Sandra Evans of Sikeston; three grandchildren, Lee Ann McDowell and James Evans both of Sikeston and Berry Hooper of Charleston; also three great grandchildren, Emily Coffee and Amber McDowell both of Sikeston and Soma Grace Hooper of Charleston.
She was preceded in death by her son in law, John Evans, two brothers, Floyd Edward "Mookie" Skelton and Jack Skelton; and two sisters, Marie Bridges and Betty Jo Parr.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2010, with Rev. Jennifer
Brashears, Pastor of the Church of God of Prophecy in Bertrand, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Bluff Cemetery at Idalia under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Michael "Dobie" Parr, Harold "Peanut' Hooper, David Hurley, Tony Hooper, David Bridges and Bruce Groves.
