Obituary

Voundis Wayne Stephens, age 91, born June 14, 1934, in Bernie, MO, to James Henry "Jim" Stephens and Sarah Elizabeth Boyt Stephens, was called to God's golden gates and streets of gold, Saturday, December 20, 2025, from his home in Wyatt, MO.

He and his beloved wife, Mary, lived in St. Charles, MO, where they started their family and after a few years they moved to Wyatt where he lived for 55 years.  Voundis was employed as a tankerman for 25 years at Waterfront in Cairo, Il until his retirement.  Voundis was a longtime member of the Wyatt Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher and in later years was a member at the Elm Street Baptist Church in Charleston where he also served as a deacon.  He was an avid fan of Kentucky Wildcats Men's basketball.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Evelyn Harris Stephens of the home; his daughter, Mary Catherine Stephens Tatosky and her husband, William of Sikeston; his daughter in law, Talicha Stephens of Wyatt; his grandson, Joshua Tyler Stephens and his wife Amanda of Charleston, MO; great granddaughters, Harper Lee Stephens and Harlow Tyler Stephens, who were his pride and joy;  his brother, Phillip Don Stephens; childhood friend, Dennis "Bud" Craft; also his brothers in law, Glenn (Judy) Harris, William (Frances) Harris, Willis (Kay) Harris and sister in law, Virginia Bowles; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, David Wayne Stephens, three sisters, Janie Marie Stephens, Deloma Jean Barber and Mary Sue Medlin and his brother, James Stephens.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.  Rev. Joe McCullough, pastor of Murray Lane Baptist Church in Sikeston, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.

Pallbearers will be John Hadenfeldt, William Harris, Jr., Jeffrey Ketchum, Kevin Nally, Billy Suggs and Cody Suggs.
