SIKESTON — Warren G. Harber, 96, died March 29, 2019, at Delta South Nursing Care in Sikeston.
Born July 14, 1922, in Blytheville, Ark., son of the late Benjamin and Melba Davidson Harber, he graduated from Matthews High School and attended Southeast Missouri College in Cape Girardeau. He taught at Fairview Rural School before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II as an infantry officer in Italy.
Returning to Sikeston, he worked for the United States Postal Service for 33 years, retiring in 1981. He was an active member of the North Acres General Baptist Church where he served as a deacon since 1950. Upon his retirement, he was a charter board member of the Southeast Missouri Food Bank, NARFE President of Bootheel Chapter 1275 and member of the SEMO Unit of the Retired Teachers Association.
On May 14, 1942, in Sikeston, he married Jewel Beck who preceded him in death on June 30, 2013.
Survivors include: three daughters, Deidre (Don) Cotton of Joplin, Sharon (Blair) Moran of Sikeston and Andrea Trent of Tyler, Texas; one sister, Juanita Cook; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service and burial with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 1 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with his grandson-in-law, Jonathan Dorst of Tulsa, Okla., officiating. Blanchard Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
