WILLIAM RUSSELL GEORGE, age 90, formerly of Bertrand died Thursday, February 7, 2013 at his residence in Sikeston.
He was born October 7, 1922 in Charleston to the late Willaim Louis and Orlene Sue Franklin George. He moved to Bertand from Cahokia, IL in 1984 where he lived until 2008 when he moved to Sikeston. A veteran of the US Army during WW II, he was the recipient of a Purple Heart, three bronze stars, and Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon with five overseas bars for his service in the Philippines, Luzon and New Guinea. He was of Baptist faith.
On December 21, 1946 he married Dorothy Mae Heaton who preceded him in death on January 6, 2004. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Marshall George, Bill George, Eugene George and Mickey George, and two sisters, Hazel Largen and an infant sister.
Surviving are one daughter, Kim Byrd of Sikeston; one nephew, Kenny George of Charleston; and one niece, Lisa Kirby of Sikeston; and one sister in law, Barbara George of Charleston.
Visitation will be held at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 9:00 am until the service hour at 10:00 am. Rev. Gerald Penn, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Charleston, will officiate.
Missouri Military Honor Guard will conduct Graveside Rites at the Oak Grove Cemetery. Interment will follow under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
