Obituary
William A. "Sonny" Morgan, Age 81, of Highlands, Texas, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2015.
He was born on March 1, 1934 in East Prairie, Mo. to Clay and Ada Gordon Morgan. Growing up, Sonny enjoyed working on the family farm, playing with family and friends, and participating in school activities. After graduating from East Prairie High School, Sonny attended Cape Girardeau Community College and worked part time.
He transferred to the University of Oklahoma, where in 1956 he received a Petroleum Engineering Degree. Upon receiving his degree, Sonny took a job offer with Marathon Oil, where he worked for 10 years. His job with Marathon brought him to the Louisiana/Texas area, where he was eventually transferred to Houston. After moving to Houston, Sonny started taking law classes at night, and received a Law Degree in 1966 from the University of Houston. In 1967 he moved to Highlands, where he practiced Law for many years. Sonny was a member of the Texas State Bar Association, as well as The Highlands Rotary. Over many years, he was very active in the Highlands/Crosby community, investing in real estate and joint venturing with many partners along the way.
When he wasn't busy working, he enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and friends. Sonny was a very kind and caring man with a great sense of humor. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Sonny is preceded in death by his parents, Clay and Ada Gordon Morgan, and his sister Ruby Clayton McNabb.
He is survived by his son, William "Kent" Morgan; daughter Cindy Morgan Simpson; grandsons Will and Holden Morgan; granddaughters Lauren Morgan and Jacie Wilson; great-grandchildren Cruz and Ava Wilson; his sister Patricia LaRue Todd of Henderson, KY. Also, Sonny is survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many
friends.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 2016, at the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery at East Prairie, MO.
