Obituary

Deberah Kay Long Alvarez

February 5, 1951 – July 9, 2026

Deberah "Debbie" Kay Long Alvarez, 75, of Charleston, Missouri, died on July 9, 2026, in Sikeston, Missouri. She was born February 5, 1951, in Cairo, Illinois.

She graduated from Charleston High School in 1969. Throughout the years, she moved to and from Charleston, and homes at times included Florida, Arizona, and Texas. She always returned to Charleston.

Debbie's life was complex, often driven by a sense of duty to her family and responsibilities that left her at odds with her dreams of living free to chase her dreams. Those who knew Debbie know that relationships were complicated - sometimes so individual that many knew sides of her that no one else experienced.

We ask that you hold your memories of her with love and compassion, wishing her peace as this journey has come to an end.

Debbie is survived by her daughter and her wife, Christian and Kim O'Connor of Casa Grande, Arizona, her sister Cyndi Long Mugridge of Charleston; her aunts Carol McCullough of Queen City, Texas, and Linda Mungle of Benton, Missouri; her niece and her husband Kelly and Trevor Ettenborough of Dearborn, Michigan; great-niece Ivy Ettenborough of Phoenix, Arizona, and cousins Matt and Kimberly Mungle and Milo of McKinney, Texas, and Channin and Tammy McCullough and Katryn McCullough Latsko, all of Queen City, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her brother Ted Long, sister Paula Long, parents Paul and Virginia Long, uncles Stanley Mungle and Kendall Mungle, grandparents Edward and Elizabeth Mungle and Thomas and Laura Long, and great-grandparents Walter and Cora Sue Reynolds.

Services will be private with family only with burial at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston.

McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
