Jack Doyle Ezzell, age 93, of Cape Girardeau, MO, died Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born September 23, 1932, in Belgreen, AL, to the late Charles V. Ezzell and Effie Pearl Mitchell Ezzell, he moved with his parents to Scott County, MO, in 1945 and was a graduate of Diehlstadt High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years, part of that time being on the USS Antietam, an Essex-class aircraft carrier famous for the first angled flight deck. Following his honorable discharge from service in 1956, he returned to Southeast Missouri where he was employed with the Jim Wilson Company in Cape Girardeau until his retirement in 1995. He also farmed and owned land in Ballard County, Kentucky, retiring in 2015.
On March 15, 1954, he married Clura Jean Stults, who preceded him in death May 21, 2020.
Surviving are his sisters, Jeanette (the late Sam) Kalman and Betty Sue (Russell) Gilbert and several nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James H. (Helen) Ezzell, Charles M. (Thelma Jean) Ezzell) and Joyce Inez (Horace Lee) McKinley.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 10, 2026, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, MO.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at the at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Dempsey Cemetery near Red Bay, Alabama.
