Obituary

Johnny Ray Scott, age 73, died Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

Deacon Johnny Ray Scott was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at his home in Charleston, Missouri.

He was born June 6, 1951 in the Thompson Bend area of rural Charleston, Missouri, the son of Robert and Pauline Beatrice Scott. He was one of 15 children born to this union, six boys and nine girls. His parents, three brothers and three sisters have preceded him in death.

"Dirty Bert" as he was affectionately known by his family, was raised in the Thompson Bend Community and attended Thompson Bend, Diehlstadht, and Kelly Schools. He was loved by his family for his sense of humor and quick wit. He had a love for cars, farming, and mechanics. He worked for the Mississippi County Highway Department and several local farms throughout the Charleston area.

He was a faithful member of the Opportunity Church of God in Christ under the leadership of his Pastor, Administrative Assistant Steve L. Betts. He served with his fellow brethren in Opportunity's Men of Distinction.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories: his children, Christopher (Cierra) Scott, Anthony (Roberta) Smith, Jeffery (Teresa) Coopwood, Robert (Johnna) Coopwood, Mike Jackson, Johnny "LJ" Scott, Jr., Ann Williams, Sandie (Jerome) Randall, Renee Ulmer-Stanley, LaShandra Ulmer Morris; his sisters, Ola (Jimmy) Hamilton of Kansas City, MO, Dollye (Arnold, Sr.), Rose (James) McCain, Lois Dugan, all of Charleston, MO, Lisa Scott of Dallas TX, Debra Gale of Fort Meyers, FL; his brothers, Garry (Gina) Scott of Kansas City, MO, Wayne Scott of Charleston, MO; maternal aunt Virginia Hall Tarver of Fort Wayne, IN; 21 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at noon, Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the Opportunity Church of God in Christ in Charleston.   The Rev. Steve Betts will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home.
