Kimberly Kay Brown Buttrey

Kim was born March 27, 1963, in Charleston, MO, the daughter of the late Riley “Junior” Brown and Mamie Ruth Ketchum Brown and passed away, Sunday, August 9. 2026, at her home near Wyatt, surrounded by her family.

She was the loving wife of Larry Gene Buttey who survives of the home and the doting mother of three sons: Jessie (JJ) Crawford, Lance Eugene Tubbs and wife Audra Cates Tubbs of Charleston Missouri, Jason Alan Tubbs of Vienna Illinois and her bonus daughter, Shawna (James) Murray and her family of Charleston. Her proudest accomplishment in life was that of her grandchildren, Victoria, Austin, Jesse Jay (Kylee), Ethan, Dalton and Connor; and her great grandchildren, Ezra Rose and Graynger James and she was so excited for two additional great grandchildren on the way.

Kim, Mom, Nana, Aunt Kim, Mrs. Kim…these were just a few of the names you would hear when speaking of our Momma. The famously acclaimed baker of the family, she was not allowed to attend any function without a tray of her delicious Rocky Road and of course her homemade Bon Bons. She would make fudge for all events although she herself didn’t eat it.

Kim was sweet, mild mannered, loving soul, and all who came into contact with her were bound to never forget her because at that moment you felt like you had known her your entire life.

She was a character as she could be found cooking or even at the occasional mud race. She would always remind you she loved you and you better let her know when you made to your destination. She refused to be called Granny -if you know then you know!

When she married Larry, she married his entire family and he married her entire family as well, and what a family they all became. While her children were growing up, Sunday dinners at her in laws home in Charleston were a staple and also a buffet. Later in life she cherished those moments with great regard.

Kim’s kind and friendly disposition would come in handy as she lent her time to her extended family and friends at Reeves Boomland in Charleston where she worked many years. Many of which she would cherish with great respect and love.

She was no stranger to grief or celebrations but one of the greatest moments was when she was told she was going to be a Great Grandma to Ezra Rose the daughter of Victoria and Austin. If you asked any of us, we were all her favorite and this is true because she would tell each of us so.

The granddaughter of the late Jack Stonewall and Gladys Josephine Perry Ketchum and James Riley Brown and Rosa Buchanan Brown, Kim was the youngest daughter of Ruth and Riley’s brood. She would be passed around to any who wanted to hold her as a baby and was the sparkle of her Momma’s eye and was all of her siblings “baby sis.”

Our Momma would not want us to be mired down in her passing but to celebrate the little things in life such as a sunrise or sunset and even the simplicity of a country cruise exploring all the county roads. She would remind us to love one another and to always let her know when we got to where we were going!

In addition to her husband Larry, and her children and their families, she is survived by her brothers, Rev. Gary (Becky) Brown and Riley (Kelly) Brown; her sisters, Vanessa Brown and Sharon Mims.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers, James Lee “Bo” Brown, Johnnie Dale Brown; sisters, Angie Barnett and Lisa Rae Brown, her nephew, Jack Thomas (J.T.) and nieces, Tanya and Elizabeth “Beth Ann.”

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 14, 2026, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Her brother, Rev. Gary Brown, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
