Mary Kathryn Rolwing, 90, of Charleston, MO, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the Bertrand Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bertrand, Missouri.
She was born Mary Kathryn Thomason on September 28, 1935, in the Bridges Community, south of Charleston, Missouri, to the late Robert Loral Thomason and Mary Edith Johnson Thomason. She was the youngest of six children.
On August 20, 1954, Mary Kathryn married her beloved husband, Mark F. Rolwing at St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston, Missouri. Their wedding was officiated by the Rev. Richard Rolwing, first cousin of the groom. Mary Kathryn and Mark spent their married lives together in the Texas Bend community north of Charleston, where they raised their four sons on the family farm.
Mary Kathryn was a former member of the Texas Bend Extension Club and a board member of the Mississippi County Farm Bureau. She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, had served as one of the organists for the church, and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She worked for several years as a secretary at the Mississippi County Extension office, was a past treasurer of the Armer Cemetery Association and had served as an election poll worker for many years.
Mary Kathryn was a loving and giving person, always helping others. She loved to cook and share her delicious food. Her banana pudding and coconut crème pie were the best around! The thing that brought her the most joy in life was her family that she was so very proud of and loved to tell others about.
Mary Kathryn is survived by her four sons and their wives, James (Ann) Rolwing, Clifford (Sharon) Rolwing, Frederick (Kathy) Rolwing, and Richard (Beth) Rolwing; her cherished grandchildren, Andrea (Seth) Rowland, Heath (Gretta) Rolwing, Stephen (Angie) Groves, Summer (Cody) Vanover, Jennifer (Tyler) Collier, Eric (Andrea) Rolwing, Hannah (Jacob) Dirnberger and Ryan (Taylor) Rolwing; 18 great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary Kathryn was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert “Bob” Thomason and William “Bill” Thomason, her sisters, Dorothy Pobst and Nadine Lynn and an infant sister, Norma Delores Thomason.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the management and staff of the Bertrand Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care, compassion and friendship shown to Mary Kathryn over the years. Also, a special thanks to Crown Hospice for providing excellent care to Mary Kathryn and her family throughout her final days.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until time for the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 7, 2026, at the St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston. Father David Dohogne, pastor, will serve as celebrant.
