Maxine Lee Halford Bird, was born in Reyno, Arkansas on November 27, 1928, to John B. Halford and Nannie Parker Halford. She passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, in Sikeston, Missouri.

Maxine called rural New Madrid County home for most of her 97 years of life. She was a graduate of Kewanee High School and attended Southeast Missouri State College. In her youth, she was a talented athlete who played volleyball and tennis.

She married the late Herbert H. Bird on January 18, 1950 at the First United Methodist Church in Charleston, Missouri.

Her favorite moments included time with her family. Whether it was traveling to various gigs with David and The Ramblers, watching Hillary at dance recitals or cheering on Josh in whatever sport was in season; she was always there. She was known as an avid and fearless horsewoman and for driving her jeep down turn-rows to check on the farm.

Maxine is proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Genevieve Meyer and Marie Chartrau and brothers Wayman, Paul and Doug.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, G. David and Peggy McMullin Bird of Sikeston, Missouri; grandchildren Hillary and Wade Hamra of Sikeston, Missouri and Joshua Bird and Sarah Buck of Mountain Home, Arkansas.; great grandsons Max and Evan Hamra of Sikeston, Missouri; and, dear friends and neighbors, Linda and John Greer.

A private graveside service will be officiated by Rev. Jennifer Moxley of First United Methodist Church of Sikeston.

The family would like to thank Dr. Omar Khan and floor 3H nursing staff of Missouri Delta Medical Center for their kind and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of Maxine Bird to the First United Methodist Church of Sikeston, 1307 North Main Street, Sikeston, MO 63801.
