January 21, 1930 – April 26, 2023
Ozella McTigue Scott, age 93, was born January 21, 1930, at Tuckerman, AR, to the late Waymon Audie "W.A." McTigue and Ollie May Helms McTigue, and fell asleep in Jesus, Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at her home in Charleston surrounded by her family.
Growing up in Arkansas, Ozella moved with her family as a teenager to Charleston where she would reside the rest of her life. Not a stranger to hard work, she worked as a waitress for many years and with the Brown Shoe Company for over 37 years until her retirement. After her "retirement", she took the position as Nanny for Ed Marshall, III, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. A lifelong Christian, she attended the Charleston Church of Christ where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Surviving is her daughter, Carol Sue Palmer; her granddaughter, Lesli Carol Abner; her grandson, Michael Jason Palmer; her great grandchildren, Lee-Thomas Moody, Lane Walker Moody, Addyson Wyles Abner and Caitlin Moody Bolden; her brother in law, Dennis Hurley; a special friend and caregiver, Pat Dean; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son in law, Michael Lee Palmer; her brother, Marshall Fremont McTigue; and her sisters, Syvella McTigue Henson and Ida McTigue Hurley, and her husband, James Melvin Scott.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 1, 2023, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Pete Nuthak and Marion Ferrell will officiate.
Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
Pallbearers will be Lee-Thomas Moody, Lane Walker Moody, Bobby McTigue, Trent Hurley, David Trevor Bledsoe and Trey Bledsoe.
